By fostering awareness about climate-responsive, locally rooted construction techniques, the workshop seeks to instill an early appreciation for traditional building wisdom and encourage informed choices over unsuitable RCC construction in fragile mountainous regions.

Title : Sowing the Seeds of Traditional Wisdom
IIT Ropar, in collaboration with North Studio, conducted a one-day interactive workshop on “Vernacular Structures and Indigenous Building Practices in the North-Western Himalayas” on 18 December for students of Cambridge International School, Kullu.
The workshop focused on sustainability, traditional craftsmanship, and climate-responsive design, and featured hands-on sessions in wood carving, handloom weaving, metal beating, and mud plastering. Through immersive and experiential learning approaches, students were introduced to the knowledge embedded in indigenous construction systems and encouraged to critically engage with sustainable building practices relevant to fragile mountain regions.
